The guys over at Tumblr finally released their very own Tumblr backup app. It’s currently in beta, but you can download it and give it a whirl (Mac OS X only – Windows / Linux user will have to check the roll-your-own solutions like the Tumblog Backup Tool or through API, for the time being).
The application will download all the text and media content from your tumblog and put it together into a set of HTML pages, one for each month of the year. The pages are kept simple to ensure max compatibility with OS X software and all browsers. Unfortunately it doesn’t support backing up of notes yet (coming soon I hope)!
I gave it a shot and it does the job quite nicely. You can run it every once in a while and it’ll backup incrementally, downloading the newly updated content only each time. Keep in mind it’s still in Beta so you might hit some snags, but good thing there’s some peace of mind for those of us out there who love our tumblogs!
Download it over at the Tumblr staff blog.
